"The Nagano Lantern Festival" starting on the 19th.
Starting in 2004 to inherit the Olympic legacy in commemoration of the 1998 Nagano Olympics, this is now the 23rd edition this year.
The main attraction is the illumination event at Sensō-ji Temple, "Yume Jōyōtō (Dream Eternal Lantern)." The display features a lighting effect that changes through six colors. This year's theme is "Prayers - Let Our Wishes for Peace Reach the World." It aims for each visitor to hold a wish for world peace and convey it to the world.
This year, a new initiative will be carried out at the baseball field of Jojyo Elementary School, located about a 5-minute walk from here.
An event called "Lights Floating in the Night Sky - Balloon" allows you to enjoy the venue from above. Riding a hot air balloon shaped like "Arukuma," the official mascot of Nagano Prefecture, you can enjoy the approximately 600 lanterns lined up in Morioka Park and the illuminated Sensō-ji Temple from a height of about 25 meters.
In addition, many lanterns will be lined up, adding color to the center of Nagano City. The "Nagano Lantern Festival" will be held from the 20th to the 23rd, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Please take precautions against the cold and enjoy this special lighting display of the season.
