February 19th is "Risshu" (Rain Water) in the 24 solar terms. It is considered the period when ice melts and turns into water. In Fukuoka Prefecture, plum blossoms that signal the arrival of spring are blooming.

At Hōkō-ji Temple in Omura City, Fukuoka Prefecture, the "Waryūbai" (Reclining Dragon Plum) tree, which is over 500 years old and designated as a prefectural natural monument, is about three to four parts in bloom.

The tree is about 3 meters tall, with a spread of 24 meters, and it was named after its branch structure, which resembles a giant dragon lying down.

"Sleeping Dragon Plum" bloomed a week earlier than last year, influenced by the warm winter last December.

The peak viewing period for the flowers is considered to be from late February to early March.

In addition, at Hikokō-ji Temple, 30 varieties of plum trees, including Hiki-bai and Hakukō-bai, are in full bloom, with a total of 300 trees.
