The traditional event heralding spring in Izu, "Hina Decorations at Susano-no-Mikoto Shrine," is being held from February 14 (Saturday) to March 8 (Sunday), 2026. The venue is Susano-no-Mikoto Shrine, located on a high ground overlooking Iwata Port. The Hina dolls and hanging decorations lined up along the 118 steep stone steps are truly breathtaking.

The overwhelming scenic view created by 118 steps of initial steps

The 118 tiers of hina dolls displayed are the highest number in Japan (according to the Iwate Onsen Ryokan Cooperative Association), and since the Tenjin Shrine in Shimoda City also displays 118 tiers of hina dolls, it becomes "Tied for the Most Tiers of Hina Dolls Displayed in Japan."

The dolls displayed all the way up the steep stone steps and the vibrant hanging decorations create a scene resembling a "Doll Wall." The composition including the torii gate is extremely photogenic, and every year many visitors take photos with their cameras.

Limited Inari Omikuji and Spring Sweets are also enjoyable

During the exhibition period, a limited edition "Oshide" (a special stamp) from the Susano-no-Mikoto Shrine will be available. Furthermore, at the cafe "CREPE & DRINK TATENOICHI," operated by the Iwato Onsen Ryokan Cooperative, a limited-time crepe will be served. The sale of "iwato-mochi" (a local specialty) will also be available, making it perfect for a break during your stroll.

"Tsurufukuro" of Hina, Heartwarming Encounter in Izu

Ito Ichinomiya Onsen is one of the three major "Hina decorations" in Japan, known as "Hina Tsurushi Decorations." The traditional culture of placing handmade dolls, made by mothers and grandmothers with care, on both sides of the Hina platform to pray for their daughters' healthy growth is still being passed down today.

During the currently ongoing "Hina Tsurushi decorations Festival" (until March 31), you can enjoy vibrant displays at multiple venues, including the "Culture Park Hina Museum."

In addition, during the same period, the Kawauchi Cherry Blossom Festival in Kawauchi Town and the Minami no Cherry Blossoms and Rape Flower Festival in Minami-Izu Town are also held. It is recommended to take a trip through Izu to feel spring a little earlier.
