【Breathtaking Road】 Kaiyō-tai - Hokkaido Area -

Table of Contents

The overwhelming sense of openness that makes the horizon appear curved. "Kaiyo-dai" located in Chūshūtsu, Hōtō, is a rider's dream destination offering a panoramic view of 330 degrees. It is a classic route for Hokkaido touring, enjoyed along with the exhilarating speed of the famous road "Milky Road."

A 360-degree panoramic view worthy of the slogan

The Kaito-dai, known for its spectacular view from the observatory, is a spot located on a small hill of 271 meters in height in Nakashibetsu-cho, Higashi-Okhotsk.

Although the mountain has a low elevation, because there are no obstacles blocking the view around it, from the observation deck you can sometimes even see as far as the Oshika Peninsula and Kunashir Island. It is said that the "330-degree view" is claimed not because of a 360-degree limitation, but because the Mount Hosa, which is nearby and has an elevation of 1,005 m, slightly blocks the view of the horizon that gives a sense of the Earth's curvature. In terms of simply the view from the observation deck, you can see all 360 degrees. Therefore, I would like you to visit in person and fully enjoy its dynamic scenery.

The open-air area itself is a so-called rest spot, but if you want to enjoy the ride, it's recommended to combine the town road No. 19 (known as the Milk Road) from Nakashibetsu town to the Open-Air Area. A road with ups and downs stretches straight through farms and forests, and its appearance is truly magnificent. You can feel refreshed both by looking at it and by riding through it. As a set with the Open-Air Area, it is widely known as one of Hokkaido's top touring routes.
